Dynamic Life

When I first saw the paint­ings of Jacob Lawrence, I was struck by the fresh­ness of his style, a style described by Robert Hughes as “dynamic cubism”, and also by his choice of subjects, more often than not very fluid, open, social scenes; and these two factors, style and subject, combine to produce vibrant, invig­or­ating images of people together, coex­isting. I need to find a com­pre­hensive guide to Lawrence’s work, as I’m becoming fas­cin­ated; but for now, here are three of his paintings:
